✨ Small Sparks

Over the last decade, I’ve collected hundreds of quotes in a small notebook. Every time I hear one I like, whether in a book or just a friend saying something profound, I add it.

Simultaneously, my life philosophy has taken shape, and at its core the idea of ‘small sparks’: that you should consistently embrace small asymmetrically positive moments, and create them for others, not knowing where they’ll lead. Small actions spiral, and so alongside scalable impact you should look to spread small, positive sparks wherever you go.

This is a collection of writing about my emerging life philosophy, with each piece centered on a quote that captured or shaped my views. They were small sparks for me, and I hope these writings (or merely the quotes themselves) will be small sparks for you.

If you like them, please share them. After all, small sparks cause fires, too ✨

Quotes are the perfect small sparks. In a single sentence, you can capture and convey a world view more powerfully, and virally, than entire books.

My writings here follow a three part format: the quote, the Spark Notes (~30 second summary), and the Full Thoughts (aiming for <5 minutes read). The quote alone might be a small spark for you, and you might interpret it in an entirely different way. The Spark Notes might be sufficient. Or you might enjoy reading the rest. Take it as you wish, the sparks are meant to serve you in whatever way you find most useful.

I do not profess to always follow these. Indeed, the act of writing these is my own process for trying to figure out what I truly believe about life.

I’m just working it out.

But I will update these as I change my mind, and I will try to live by them. And, hopefully, some of these writings might be a small spark for you.

All thoughts are my own. I unreservedly reserve the right to be wrong, to change my mind, and to change my mind again.
