Hey, I’m Wulfie! Strange name I know. Shoutout my parents, Peter and Jane, for creativity.

Some things about me:

  • I’m currently at OpenAI, where I lead the Startups Applied AI team in EMEA/APAC.
  • I’ve walked a wandering career path so far: I started at an ultra high net worth family office; did BCG strategy consulting; was co-founder/CTO of a VC backed startup; & now OpenAI.
  • My academic interests have always been broad. I did my undergrad at Oxford studying Economics, and my Masters in Computer Science at Imperial College. But my dad is a neurologist focussed on movement disorders, my mum an anthropologist focussed on myths, my grandad a physicist at Cern - they all had very different personalities, and I’ve inherited a piece from each.
  • In short, I love exploring & learning.

Some passions:

  • I love fitness. I grew up playing a lot of football (soccer), gymnastics & karate. But knee injuries mean I now focus on the gym.
  • I adore reading. I go through phases of loving fiction, non-fiction, investigative journalism, philosophy and pretty much anything else.
  • I love travel. Some of the best moments of my life have been watching sunsets on mountains in Kyrgyzstan, the plains of Mongolia, or boats on the Flores sea.
  • I have a (not so) secret love of musicals (top one? Come from Away - wow).
  • I love making things. Founding my startup, writing, building little apps, making music (badly).
  • I also love Warhammer 40k, so if I ever try to come across as cool just reference the c. 40 Heresy books I have on my audible…

My life philosophy:

  • My life goals are, broadly, to make a positive impact on the world, and to live an interesting life. Figuring out interesting is part of the journey.
  • My writings are a way to share my world views, but also to refine them for myself.
  • My views are a mosaic of things I’ve read, heard, or come up with. I try to hold strong opinions incredibly weakly, so please tell me if I’m wrong so I can update those beliefs.
  • I have faith. I’m not sure what in.

There are a few parts to this website, which I hope you’ll check out:

  1. Small sparks: writings on how I think about life, based around quotes I particularly enjoy. I hope the quotes are small sparks for your own thinking.
  2. Tech: lessons from my work in startups & AI, on the world or technology and where I think it’s going.

There will be more added over time.

Most of all, I’m trying to figure out what life is all about. So this is me just working it out.
